If you just want to play one class though, you'll hit a wall once you get to the actually hard content, although there's some shortcuts(mostly playing Crusader).
If you're an alt-holic, like me, you can play for months rolling every class and doing events as you go, which in turns will let you gear up ONE character as F2P and experience the endgame fully. You can still stay F2P, but you'll have to plan on playing for a very long time to get anywhere close to having "good" endgame gear. However once you get to the real endgame, raiding and so on, the P2W aspect rears its ugly head. They also constantly run events, many of which you can do at lower level, to get endgame stuff for free.
